Sat Naam Dearest Krishan Shiva
It is so great to hear from you...I'm glad you are doing well with the cleanse. Yes, grapefruits are great for the liver...a number of years ago I did a cleanse where you drink 2 fresh squeezed quarts of grapefruit juice per day for 3 days...that't all you have for those 3 days...it is very intense but healing....diakon juice is also great for the liver...and for hepatitis....
Enjoy your juicing ...and greens
Much love always
Mahan Rishi

So far, so good. Enjoying the smoothies (though not particularly fond of the high energy drink: couldn't get passed the color the black molasses turned it!!). But last night's dinner was good AND filling: I made a version of the quinoa salad: quinoa, yellow & orange peppers, nori, small onions, peas, green beans, sunflower seeds, olive oil, parsley, with avocado on the side. Served it as side dish for family--they liked it a lot--and main dish for me. YUMMY. --Cath

It's been a tough couple of days for me...I have been sick in bed with a fever and cough, but today am feeling much better. I showered, put on fresh clothes, and went to the store to get some fresh produce and some herbs to help with my throat. The smoothies and food have been helping me heal. I bought my first red cabbage today!

I am still having hard time with shakes..they really taste awful...anyone find a mixture that may taste better?

At 10:46 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

My 1st shake was troublesome I used heaping handfulls of collard greens. Spinach and beet greens seems to be a bit more gentle for me. Adding raw shaved coconut is good (gives me something small to chew). This is the longest that I have been without coffee since I was about 14 years old. I feel amazing! Dandy Drink is good for afternoon boost. ~Param Daya Kaur~ Dawn

Hi Jennifer
Adding more banana, blueberries and strawberries can help with the taste....

Also keep in mind the psyllium that is in the shake will make it congeal...it is best to drink shortly after blending or add more water later....

Keep up!

Hi Kendall
I hope you are feeling better...it was great having you come and stay with us...I hope your trip home went smoothly and that your car is okay...

I would be drinking lots of warm lemon water...if you can add a small pinch of cayenne pepper it will be helpful also.

Jalopenas are especially good for the chest....

I look forward to seeing you again...
Happy Winter-Spring!

Jennifer, you can also add a nice little splash of raw honey too if you really cant take the taste! But fruit is best as Mahan Rishi said!

Try freezing your fruit, that makes it taste nicer when its cold too. (Peel your bananas before you put them in the freezer!)

I am struggling a bit with this cleanse since I am a picky (very picky) eater. I don't mind the morning shake as long as it is made with Spinach, but I couldn't handle it with any thing else (kale, beet greens, romaine, etc).
I also thought I would be more regular by now. I am only once a day and that's normal.
Hope everyone is going strong.

Thank you, Mahan Rishi! I am doing much better but still very congested. I'll be drinking lots of lemon water with cayenne..I really enjoyed my stay with you and Nirbha Kaur, thank you again so much for having me.

Jennifer - something I really like in my smoothies to make them nice and creamy is about a handful of cashews (raw nonroasted) ground in a coffee grinder. The consistency seems to be everything for me - monday was a little too thick, yesterday was a little too runny, but today was just right! Today I had a simple, but really yummy and creamy smoothy that had about:
1/4 cup organic papaya juice
1 cup water
about 5 medium strawberries
1 banana
some shredded coconut
a handful of ground cashews
some ground sesame seed
a hand full of beet greens
a kahle leaf
a few full pieces of parsley
plus the scoop of the green zone

Be sure to blend til everything is nice and creamy

Hope this helps!

Hi Jennifer : I experimented with a new smoothie combination this morning which came out very nice and light = 1 Banana, 1 pear, 1 kiwi, a few seedless green grapes, 1/2 cup fresh tropical fruit juice, 1/2 cup water (you can add more water if you like it thinner), scoop of green powder, 1 large tsp raw coconut oil, 1 tsp maca, 1 tsp hemp protein power, 1 T ground flax/sunflower seed mix, a couple of handfulls of spinach. Using the fresh tropical fruit juice may add a lift to the smoothie for you.. wishing you much tastiness! ;-) Krishan Shiva Kaur (UK)

Hi Cath - Thanks so much for sharing your Quinoa Salad recipe - If anyone else comes up with some yummy combinations please could you share them here. I'm new to making Quinoa as a salad - so would love to hear your suggestions...as it makes a great dish to take to work! I'm also finding the practice of alternate nostril breathing - Nadi Shodana - very nice to do after the lemon water and before my morning yoga practice - it's bringing a freshness and balance to my mind and energy. blessings!

Well I am still cleansing. Though I am too having a difficult time with the morning smoothie. I did use spinach today with some avocado and it seemed much easier to swallow. My 1.5 yr. old son also enjoyed some. - Go figure he can suck it back better then I can! Though I have been skimping on the amount of greens because I couldn't drink it. So tomorrow I will try to add more spinach and some other greens I have. I also feel I am not eating as much as I thought I would. Still craving pizza but feeling good. The chocolate shake is yummie! Thanks for the info on that. I haven't tried too many recipes yet because I have been pretty busy this week. Hopefully over the weekend I will try some new things!

The Liver

Spring time is a great time for the liver....it detoxifies your blood and metabolizes protein, carbs and fats on a continual basis. The Liver is also responsible for the smooth flow of Qi. As the energy emerges from winter and hibernation it begins to flow again. This presents many opportunities for cleansing and detoxing. Now is the time to work on this tireless organ which cleans the blood day in and day out.
Yogi Bhajan gave a recipe for this time to clean the blood:
1 tablespoon of whole black pepper in a quart of water
boil down 1/2 way, strain and cool
Then mix this reduction with a 1/2 quart of pomegranate juice
Drink throughout the day
Food recommendations for the liver: beets and beet greens, daikon radish, kale, collards, chard, spinach, green juices and turmeric.

Great to be here! Feeling good and enjoying the food. Biggest challenge is when eating at other people's houses--eating beforehand and bringing something healthful to share. Surprised not be hungrier; have been talking to some feeling bored as we haven't tried any of the recipies, yet.

Today roasted sweet potatoes & parsnips. Blended with almond milk, ginger, nutmet and splash of apple cider vinegar. Yummy soup!

Cleanse on.

As you cleanse deeper you will be releasing candida from the blood....a great cleanser for this is Pau
D'Arco (Taheeba bark) tea....you can get it at most health food stores ...we also have it here....

Candida surrounds the cell and blocks the entrance of water and nutrients...it also gets into the muscle...As you cleanse you will have greater flexibility and less inflammation in the muscles and joints.
